I have been in the financial services industry for 23 years. I currently run my own independent practice. It's small by most standards and I would describe it as concierge financial services. My practice is largely centered around investments but as a CFP I also provide complete financial planning. My book is mostly fee/advisory based with some variable annuity business.
I began my career working at a large retail bank where being a salesman took precedence over being an advisor. I've also worked with independent advisors who, unfortunately, turned out to be much the same but with no proprietary products. Eventually I came to realize that to really put the client first I had to go out completely on my own. I adhere to the motto, "Do well by doing good." I would like to expand my practice and I'm looking one that is similar to mine.
